20150328 weekend cooking 71st Travelers Planet Hostel.[Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Hello, everyone!
Today, weekend cooking menu is Ham&Potato fry :)
It is also one of common side dishes in Korea.
Especially, if add some ketchup, it will be the best menu for little kids <3
and actually I also love it so much as my taste is still childish. XD
but it means everyone could enjoy this easily.
Who can hate Ham&Potato combination though? hahaha
also it doesn't require many ingredients and the recipe is very simple.
Ok, Here we go!

*Ingredient
Ham
Potato
oil or sesame oil(optional)
salt

*Direction
Shred potatos and ham nicely.
Preheat a frying pan on medium heat.
Fry shredded potatos first with oil.
Add ham in to frying pan and fry with potatos evenly.
Put some salt and pepper.
When the potatos and ham gets golden brown serve the ham&potato fry and enjoy!

Kimchi-Jjigae for all of you out there! Try this next time! (Travelers Planet Hostel Guesthouse, Hongdae, Seoul, Korea)

Hello this is ‪#‎TravelersPlanet‬ ‪#‎Hostel‬ !

I've recommended lot of #koreanfoods to guests in the past 4months and now I think I'm getting the hang of what would people want to taste or like! :) So I'm makiing one now!!

Have you ever heard of #김치찌개(#Kimchi_Jji_gae)?? you all know kimchi but kimchi-jjigae must be new!
It is unpopular for tourists, I'd say it's very local. not much introduced to foreigners so to speak.

It's kind of a '#Kimchi Stew with Pork', and as you can see in the photo, it can be quite hot but if you have tried kimchi and was well, Kimchi Jjigae won't be a problem at all. you can enjoy this as much as any other koreans! :)

I know you guys mostly want to figure out what that famous fried chickens and korean barbecues taste like~or more fancy looking foods for instagram! XD
but I also know you would also want to try this #local_korean_food we koreans dig!!!

and one more tip for lovers of alcohol, it goes great with #soju~!

if you taste this once, you'll literally drool over this pics for the rest of your life! haha >_<
So why not give it a shot!

Real Korea! "Korean sentiments" Episode 3.‪한恨(Han‬-Resentment) [Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Hello, guys!
A few days ago I read an article about '‪#‎Hwa_byung‬' which is a Korean mental illness which arises when people are unable to confront their anger as a result of conditions.
The word hwa-byung is composed of "hwa" meaning "fire", "angry",
and "byung" meaning "syndrome" or "illness".
You might wonder why I'm talking about this depressed thing!
I'm telling you now why I did that shortly and the main topic "Han" right after.
Interestingly, Hwa-byung is known as a culture-bound syndrome.
The bound culture is "Han" what I'm going to tell you now.
‪Han‬ is a concept in ‪‎Koren culture‬ attributed as a unique Korean cultural trait.
Originally Korean is very cheerful and delightful people
you could know through last week topic 'Heung'.
This pain sentiment has resulted from Korean long history of outside invasions and wars.
So if you want to know more about Korean Han trait,
you need to learn Korean history properly.

I would recommend you "‪DMZ tour‬".
It will help well to show and understand you the most hurtful and recent history of Korea, the problems between North Korea and South Korea.
If you want to know the detail about tour, leave comment or message us.
I have written total 3 big Korean sentiments so far.
They are the most fundamental and crucial parts to learn about Korea.
I hope I helped you some :)
Thank you for reading my stories of ‪‎Real Korea‬!
I will come back with more interesting topic next week.
Keep well! See you soon <3

Hello, everyone <3
Today Weekend cooking is Rolled omelet!
Rolled omelet is one of common side dishes in Korea.

*Ingredient
eggs
some salt
oil

*Direction
Mix eggs in a bowl with some salt.
Heat a pan at medium high temperature and add oil.
Pour a thin layer of egg mixture in the pan, tilting to cover the bottom of the pan.

Joomak Boribop?(Travelers Planet Hostel Guesthouse, Hongdae, Seoul, Korea)

Hey guys,
Did you have lunch or dinner somewhere?
I will recommend you a ‪#‎Korean‬ ‪#‎restaurant‬ near ‪#‎Studio_41st‬ .
Lots of guest ask us where a nice restaurant is around the ‪#‎guesthouse‬ .

There are a lot of restaurants. But not many restaurants so ‪#‎traditional‬ or is generally chosen by most guest. Guests are from everywhere in the world. Tastes are different every each person.

That's why we have to‪#‎recommend‬ a restaurant which is very popular for international people.
‪#‎Joomak_Boribop‬ is frequently recommended. ‪#‎Boribop‬ means barley rice. Set menu with barley rice is their signature menu.
There are also a lot of nice dishes. ‪#‎Stir_fried_spicy_pork‬ ,‪#‎Noodles_with_spicy_fish_stew‬ and so on. And you should order‪#‎Makgeolli‬ or ‪#‎Dongdongju‬ which are Korean traditional drinks.

How about Joomak Boribop for tomorrow dinner?

Real Korea! "Korean sentiments" Episode 2.‪흥興‬(Heung-joy) [Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Originally Korean called ourself we are a race
having ‪Han‬(Resentment) and Heung cultural traits.
A Interesting point is they two traits are completely opposite conceptions.
But they are innerly related to each other.
I'm going to tell you more about Han next weekend.

Korean's Heung is shown well in people's daily life and culture.
Basically, korean people love to eat, drink, sing and dance
all together at the same time so much!
Some Korean speak in game we could share proper Jeong
to exchange glasses each other and hang out singing and dancing.

This sentiment has come down to us from our ancestors.
We can find it in Korean traditional play, music and performance.
The most outstanding example is ‪Sa-mul-no-ri‬.
It is a genre of traditional percussion music.
Several people play four different traditional Korean musical instruments
upon special Sa-mul-no-ri rhythms all musician and audience dancing and moving free.
Also the musicians consider communication and harmony
with audiences a significant part.
If you see the performance I'm sure you cannot stop dancing and feeling free!
I personally think sometimes we know traditional things are certainly important
but also cannot deny some of them is quite boring.
But this one is not, it is still fairly exciting
but unfortunately its fame has been losing out to new things like always.

In the sense, I recommend a performance "‪Nanta‬".
It a comedy performance, a story in kitchen based on Sa-mul-no-ri rhythms.
Knives and other kitchen utensils make sound,
as those stuff are transformed into musical instruments!
I hope more people know more about Korean Heung
and its culture not onl ‪Kang-nam Style‬ and hope it did work! haha
Keep cool! guys, let's see next week!

Notice! Next real Korea is "‪한恨‬(Resentment)"
Please look forward to it!
