Hello! this time we are representing you to

#Ddeokbokki! or #Tteokbokki~!!

It's a spicy rice cake~

Our kind guests have participated in making the video haha! Thank You!

It looks so delcious , I'm drooling while posting this!

*Ingredients

Rice cake

Fish cake

Red pepper paste

Soy sauce

garlic

sugar or oligosaccharide

*Recipe

1. Soak the rice cake in water

2. slice the fish cake in pieces

3. mix red pepper paste, soy sauce, etc to make the seasoning for the Ddeok-bok-ki

4. dissolve the seasoning in water and boil it with the rice cake at a shallow pan or a pot.

5. when the rice cake turns soft, put the fish cake and boil bit more until it's cooked well.

20150314 weekend cooking 70th Travelers Planet Hostel.[Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Hello, everyone <3

Today Weekend cooking is Rolled omelet!

Rolled omelet is one of common side dishes in Korea.

It's not really difficult to cook but require some skill to make the shape nicely. 

but Travelers planet official chef "Effy" made it perfectly! Coooool.

Look at this video and try it yourself ;)

*Ingredient

eggs

some salt

oil

*Direction

Mix eggs in a bowl with some salt.

Heat a pan at medium high temperature and add oil.

Pour a thin layer of egg mixture in the pan, tilting to cover the bottom of the pan. 

After the thin egg has set a little, gently roll into a log.

Repeat adding egg to the pan and rolling back and forth until the egg is used up.

Remove from the pan and cool for 3-4 minutes.

Slice the ends of the log off and then slice the log into a bite-sized.

Hello, everyone!

Do you guys like noodles?

I LOVE NOODLES TOO MUCH! haha

I think many Korean people would enjoy noodles for meal.

but sometimes we even make sweet snacks with noodles 

named "Ramen-ddang".

It is very nice with beer and also really simple to cook it!

Yesterday we cooked this for Travelers planet guests ;)

Watch this video and try yourself!

*Ingredient

Any kind of dry noodles

Sugar 

Syrup or Honey(Optical)

*Direction

Break the dry noodles into bite-size pieces.

Put them on a pan with on low heat.(without oil)

Melt the sugar and  until the noodles get golden.

and add sugar over the noodles evenly as much you want.

and melt the sugar stirring them nicely so it doesn't burn.

When the noodles get sticky enough serve it on a plate.

Add some syrup or honey if you prefer sweeter one and enjoy it!

Two good news from Chinese guests.[Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Hi, everyone!

We have two good news from a guest group from China.

First,

they got bottles in our on-going bottle event 

as they shared their cool photos at Travelers planet hostel on their SNS. 

Thank you so much for that, girls. That's awesome! 

Second,

they gave us presents Nanjing Olympic mascot "Lele" key holders. 

It's so cute and meaningful.

They explained about how the character earned the name. 

Nanjing is a city famous for stone in China. 

砳砳 is "Lele" in Chinese character. One 石 means stone 

so two stones together literally mean they make sounds crushing each other.
Furthermore, the letters has another meaning "Happiness".

Mmm, I think I like the idea a lot!

Living alone is pretty lonely and quite. 

More than two people Getting together could make sound 

talking, laughing, kissing and so on and happiness may come from that! ;)

That's why I'm here guys! Come to Travelers planet hostel

Weekend Cooking 52nd Travelers Planet Hostel.

This weekend, we Roasted rice cakes for our guests!!!

Roasted rice cakes are different because of the roasting.

Roasting them in oil in a cast iron skillet crisps up the rice cake giving it a toasty, crunchy outside and a soft, chewy inside. It’s an addictive combination and much better than boiled. 

If you have frozen rice cakes, cook in boiling water for a few minutes until al dente but not too soft {They'll continue to cook when grilled}.

Heat a large cast-iron skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.

Add the grapeseed oil to pan, and add rice cakes just when it's about to smoke.

They should sizzle when they hit the oil, then drop heat to medium.

Sear for 3 minutes per side until a light golden brown

Last, Crispy and sticky roasted rice cakes eaten with sweet honey!!

Weekend Cooking 50th at Travelers Planet Hostel.

This weekend, we made Ramen-ttang for our guests!!!

Have you ever heard about ramen-ttang?

I think it is only in Korea :)

It is snack of instant noodle, so it cannot be said healthy.

However, when you lose the appetite and/ or bother to cook for yourselves, people usually come to grab ramen.

It is really simple and delicious :)

From now on I will tell you how to make it!!

1. Break and roll ramen into small pieces without open it.

2. Put the crushed ramen into a pan and heat over medium and high stirring continually until it turns to golden brown.

3. Add sugar and turn off stove. Mix it well and sugar will be melted.

4. Enjoy ramen ttang.

Weekend Cooking 48th at Travelers Planet Hostel.

This weekend, we made Hotteock for our guests!!!

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

From now on I will tell you how to make it!!

1. Dissolve the yeast into 180~200ml warm water.

Tip! You can easily use paper cup to measure the amount of the water.(1 paper cup equals 180~200ml water) 

For lukewarm water, You can mix 2/3 hot water and 1/3 cold water. 

2. Add the pancake flour into the dissolve yeast.

Knead the mixture for 5 minutes or more dough is evenly mixed. Divide the dough into 8 balls. 

Tip! To avoid dough sticking on the gloves, rub some oil on the plastic gloves

3. Flatten each dough balls and fill with the prepared pancake sweat filling.

 You can also fill everything you want. Make sure to cover the filling very well with dough.

4. Fry the part of the filled dough. When the dough bottom turns brown, flatten the pancake ball. 

Trun it upside down to cook it evenly

This weekend, we made Soft tofu with soy sauce for our guests!!!

It’s really simple for busy morning and high-protein food.

I’ve been eating quite a lot of soft tofu with soy sauce lately. 

From now on I will tell you how to make it!!

1. Pour water into the steaming pot. 

2. Put the soft-tofu for 5 min when water boils.

3. Drain the excess water.

4. Spread the soy sauce 

(mix 1 tbsp soy sauce, chopped shallots and onion and sesame seed )

5. Serve hot..

Weekend Cooking 42nd at Travelers Planet Hostel.

Today is happy Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving Day :D

So this weekend, we made Half-moon shape rice cake (songpyeon) with our guests!!!

From now on I will tell you how to make it!!

1. Strongly knead rice powder with hot water quite for a long time

2. Pull off rice powder dough, roll it into a small ball and make a dent in the center.

3. Put the sweet fillings in it, close up the balls edges and make it into a half-moon shape

4. Pour water into the steaming pot, heat it up for 9 min. When it boils, layer pine needles on the bottom. Place the shaped dough and steam for 20 min. 

5.Take out the steamed rice cake, quickly rinse in cold water, remove the pine needles, drain water and coat with sesame oil.

I thought it was refreshing and a totally new experience for our guests!!!

Hello, friends!!!

This weekend we will cook Half-moon shape rice cake (Songpyeon) for our guests.

Next Monday is Korean Thanksgiving Day(Chuseok) in Korea.

Songpyun is the special food that Koreans eat on Chuseok. So we decide to make it.

It’s rice cake with sweet fillings, such as sesame seeds, sugar,sweet beans or chestnut and steamed on a bed of pine needles. Making songpyeon was so much fun :)
