20150207 weekend cooking 64th Travelers Planet Hostel [Hostel in Hongdae, Seoul, Korea]

Hello, guys.

Last weekend, We cooked candied sweet potato(Matang) with our guest 

at Travelers Planet Hostel, in Hongdae,Seoul,Korea.

We appreciated that our guests loved this cooking a lot! 

I want to recommend you to try this for tonight ;) 

It will make your night sweeter.<3

* Ingredient

sweet potato

vegetable oil

sugar

black sesame seeds

* Direction

Wash the sweet potatoes, peel the skin and cut them into small chunks. 

Soak them in cold water for 30 mins to reduce the starch.

Drain the water and lightly wipe off the moisture with kitchen paper.

Put the sweet potatoes and enough vegetable oil into a pot.

Boil the pot on high heat until the sweet potato is golden and crisp (for 5 to 10 mins).

Take out the fried sweet potatoes 

and put them onto kitchen paper to soak the excess oil.

Put the sugar in a pan and melt it on medium heat. Once the melted sugar starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium to low.

Add the sweet potatoes into the wok and mix with the sauce well (for 2-3 mins).

Serve the sweet potato on a plate.

Sprinkle black sesame seeds over the top.

Weekend Cooking 52nd Travelers Planet Hostel.

This weekend, we Roasted rice cakes for our guests!!!

Roasted rice cakes are different because of the roasting.

Roasting them in oil in a cast iron skillet crisps up the rice cake giving it a toasty, crunchy outside and a soft, chewy inside. It’s an addictive combination and much better than boiled. 

If you have frozen rice cakes, cook in boiling water for a few minutes until al dente but not too soft {They'll continue to cook when grilled}.

Heat a large cast-iron skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.

Add the grapeseed oil to pan, and add rice cakes just when it's about to smoke.

They should sizzle when they hit the oil, then drop heat to medium.

Sear for 3 minutes per side until a light golden brown

Last, Crispy and sticky roasted rice cakes eaten with sweet honey!!

This weekend, we made Rice balls for our guests!!!

Rice balls don’t really need a recipe to make!!
Anybody, including someone who has never cooked before, can start making it right away if you have cooked rice. You can put in anything you want, really.

It’s just like making a mud ball when you were a kid.
The difference is, you actually can eat it ;)

From now on I will tell you how to make it.

1. Put some rice in a rice bowl.
2. Add the seasoned and roasted seaweed mixture to the rice.
3. Using damp hands, place rice in one hand
4. Make a well in the middle of the rice ball and put in tuna or ham mixture. Leave edges & corners unfilled.
5. Close the well.

Hmmm, have you heard about "Toenjang" which is Korean style Soybean paste? Not only Toenjang is traditional and healthy but also delicious! If you haven't tasted it yet, I think you can catch the chance to eat this weekend. 

This weekend, we will cook Spinach Miso Soup. Although the name is Spinach Miso soup, it will be made by Korean Toenjang!

If you know our ordinary meals, you won't miss this weekend~ Also I recommend you have a breakfast time with bit of rice :) I bet it would be more delicious!

I love it(although I couldn't taste it), and I think all friends were enjoying it :)

Actually, although it is little difficult to recognize how to make it, what you need to do for making it is just putting eggs into the pan, with ingredients you want, such as carrot, tomato or cheese!

Lighting Festival 2014 (The garden of morning calm)

Today, one good information for you guys is Lighting Festival 2014 at the garden of morning calm.



The Garden of Morning Calm holds its annual Light Festival from December through to March 3. On weekends (including Friday), the garden closes late at 9PM and you can marvel at the thousands of lights that illuminate the garden.



- Buy some hot packs to put into shoes and pockets before you come to the garden! It can get very cold posing for a photo in snowy weather.
